Zinnia Postharvest Assessment: Improving Vase Life Through Cooler Storage Trials

Calee Garn

Twelve florists will be selected at random from a list of florists within a 30 mile radius of our farm. Each florist will be given, at no charge, two bunches of zinnias. Florists will be instructed to not put their zinnias in a floral holding solution of any kind. We will encourage florists to place one bunch in the cooler, and the other to be left out. We will ask them to use the flowers in their design work. We will then ask them to fill out the questionnaire regarding what they were able to witness.
The following data will be collected from local florists
● Are Zinnias currently used in your design work?
● Does Vase life determine the use of zinnias in your floral designs?
● Did utilizing a cooler affect the vase life of the zinnias provided?
● Will the data collected from this trial increase the usage of Zinnias in your design work?
