- Spring Farm Tour and More!
Hi friend, As we step into May, I want to acknowledge what has already been one of the most challenging seasons many of us have faced, myself included. Unpredictable weather patterns, early blooms, followed by those devastating late freezes, have created a level of uncertainty that tests even the most seasoned growers. This has been, without question, the most difficult season of my farming career so far. In the midst of these challenges, Iāve been reminded just how valuable this association is. The shared knowledge, encouragement, and willingness to show up for one another matter more than ever in seasons like this. Thatās why Iām especially excited to welcome you to my farm later this month for our upcoming farm tour. Thereās something powerful about gathering together in person, walking the fields, seeing whatās working and what isnāt, and reconnecting with the heart of why we do this work. My farm will look very different from what I originally planned for this tour, but I believe there is just as much, if not more, to be learned from the challenges of this season. Whether your fields are thriving or youāre rethinking your entire approach, you belong here. I look forward to spending time together, learning from one another, and continuing to strengthen this incredible community. - Spring Blossomed Early in Utah!
Hi friend, As we step into April, itās hard not to feel the energy of the season already in full swing. This year has brought an especially early spring, with many of our flowers blooming three to four weeks ahead of schedule. I can honestly say Iāve never seen so many blooms in March - itās been both exciting and a little dizzying as we all work to keep up with the pace of the season! With that in mind, I hope each of you is finding moments to enjoy the beauty of what youāve grown, even amid the busyness that early spring demands. Weāre also excited to welcome a new member to our leadership team. Please join me in welcoming Calee Garn as our new Grants Committee Chair. Weāre grateful to have her stepping into this role and look forward to the opportunities sheāll help cultivate for our community. Alongside that, weāre pleased to introduce a new resource on our website: the Grants Research Page. This page is designed to house past research and insights contributed by our members, helping make grant opportunities more accessible and less overwhelming to navigate. While the page is still under construction, there is already some valuable information available, and we encourage you to explore it and check back as it continues to grow. Iād also love to personally invite you to join me on my farm for our May Farm Tour. Itās always a highlight of the season to gather, walk the fields together, and learn from one another in person. I hope youāll come spend some time connecting, sharing, and celebrating the beauty of our farms in full spring. There are limited tickets (free with membership), so sign up soon if you plan to come. As always, thank you for being part of this vibrant and supportive community. Wishing each of you a successful, abundant, and joy-filled spring season. Between the time change to daylight savings, the abundance of warmer than usual weather and the upcoming equinox, I think it is safe to wish you all a happy spring! While I am enjoying the warm weather, I am secretly (ok, not so secretly) pining for quite a few more snowstorms. The kind with big, fluffy flakes that cover everything in a magical blanket that seems to suspend time itself. The kind that makes you feel like a kid again. I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility given the weather patterns of the last decade. Just know, if the snow does come, I'll be enjoying a cup of coffee on my couch while watching it snow and then I'll suit up and go to the high tunnel to experience the contemplative stillness that the snow brings to my little corner of the world. I get it though....springtime is always so welcome and magical in its own right. It is my favorite time of the year. Birdsong, spring rains, the waking up of the trees and flowers, the bumbling bumblebees. Oh, the sounds, sights and scents are fabulously decadent! In the middle of all of this magic, Utah's flower farmers are starting the busiest part of their season. Spring is an exhilarating challenge. There is so much that needs to be done pretty much all at the same time. Now is a great time to find your local flower farmer and connect with them. Click here to use our handy locator map! Farmers are currently selling CSA or bouquet subscriptions, advertising for on farm events and tuber sales. It's also a good time to inquire about flower availability for Easter, Mother's Day and graduations. If you're interested in internships and employment, now is also the time to reach out. Many farmers happily take volunteers and many hire seasonal help. As we move into the business of the spring season, I hope that you all find time to enjoy the magic of it all. The hope and the promise of springtime always fully delivers! Thank you for being here and loving locally grown flowers as much as we do! Warm Regards, Sara Asbridge Publicity Chair Utah Cut Flower Farm Association P.S. Check out the keynote speakers we have lined up for the Utah Flower Conference! Weāre thrilled to share that the 2027 conference keynotes will include Briana of Blossom and Branch Farm and Julio of The Flower Hat. Mark your calendars for February 20, 2027- you wonāt want to miss this one.

As we move into February and begin preparing for another growing season, I want to start by expressing my gratitude for this community. The strength of the Utah Cut Flower Farm Association comes from growers who are willing to share knowledge, support one another, and invest in the future of local flowers.

Hi friend, Ā Are you still harvesting blooms? Or have you left the last few for the pollinators to build their winter stock? It's always bittersweet when the season comes to an end - but we're also looking forward to a bit more rest. Ā As a board we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Loretta Clayson of Journey Farm for serving as our Vice President over the last 2 and half years. Loretta is a wonderful friend, supportive team mate, and talented farmer. We will miss her wisdom and kindness on the board. Hi friend, Ā Creating the Utah Flower Day was one of the very first things we knew we wanted to do when the Utah Cut Flower Farm Association was founded. We couldn't wait to help people find their flower farmers.Ā We pictured a room full of blooms and flower lovers and farmers making connections. Over the last few years we feel we've accomplished that at our last 3 Utah Flower Day events. As we've thought about the needs of our growing community, we decided the best thing we could do was make the Utah Flower Day more accessible for all of our farmers. Instead of hosting an in-person event in one city this year, we will be providing support for members of the association to celebrate Utah Flower Day in their own communities. We have found an amazing Utah artist, Alma Loveland, who has created a beautiful poster for us. This poster is intended to help educate the general public on just how awesome Utah flowers are.Ā With key talking points, it's meant to start conversations about why people would purchase local flowers. We have also commissioned an adorable sticker and coloring page to further engage our communities.Ā The Utah flower day will be on August 16th this year. We will be providing promotional materials for members to use in any creative way they see fit. You could display the poster at your farmers market booths, farm tour,Ā u picks, or the local Fair.Ā You could share the sticker with your subscribers or florists. You could create an arrangement and share that on social media to celebrate the day. You could create a flower installation in your city. You could also organize your own in-person event with ot her local flower farms or florists in your area. How to participate in the 2025 Utah Flower DayĀ Ā Ā Reach out with any questions, we want to make this the best Utah Flower Day for you! Ā Sincerely, The UCFFA Team
