Welcome to our flower farm! My name is Paige Goodson, and together with my husband Michael, we've started out on a little adventure. Michael is a 4th generation agricultural farmer, and I am an educator. We live on our farm property that has about 200 adjoining acres. I have a passion for flowers and the joy they spark in all who give and receive them. In recent years, I've taken a slice of our acreage to grow, experiment, meditate, and find calm in the garden. From seed to harvest, flowers represent such a beautiful cycle.Country Sunshine Flower FarmPaige GoodsonIt is our desire to have others share in that experience as well. When I was little, I wanted a cement yard and nothing to do with gardening. My parents were both avid gardeners: my father with vegetables and my mother with flowers. I would begrudgingly assist when asked to do so. But as I've grown older, (hopefully) wiser, and gained some life-experience, the soil, the process, the success and the failures of gardening have provided a sanctuary that gives me peace. The flowers are the product, but the journey is what is important. It's the journey of self-discovery, persistence, and learned gratitude for what we cannot control. While we are blessed with many acres to grow our crops; it doesn't take but a few square feet to experience the journey. Our flower farm sets out to help the backyard gardener experience the joy of growing, harvesting, and sharing flowers. < Back Edit My Profile Country Sunshine Flower Farm It is our desire to have others share in that experience as well. Growing up, I didn't have the proverbial green thumb. I would flip through seed catalogs and stare longingly at houses with lovely yards, all while yearning to grow a beautiful garden of my own. I knew it was possible to do here in our arid climate as I have watched my dad and grandfather grow incredible gardens year after year. One day, several years ago, I decided to figure it out so that I could get my hands dirty and feed my passion for flowers. In 2019, this dreamer made the choice to plant a large plot of sunflowers on some of our family's land the following spring. I could never have imagined the impact those flowers made on me and the friendships that would blossom from that venture. Now, a few years down the road, I have moved the "farm" to a much smaller area on a portion of my half acre of red dirt near Zion. I am forever a student of the flowers as I learn which flourish the best in our unique growing conditions. They take a special kind of care and love to grow in the desert, and I am grateful to be here for the journey and for the joy these flowers bring not only to me, but to all who receive them.Blue Sky BloomsKimberlee HendersonUnder the blue skies and warm sunshine of the Southern Utah desert near Zion National Park, growing beautifully in the sandy red dirt, an ephemeral oasis of seasonal flowers bloom. - Bessie and Joyce Flowers | Utah Cut Flower Farm Association
Emily Brooksby loves flowers, gardening, and designing. What started out as a hobby growing flowers in pots on the balcony of her first home has blossomed into a passion project and business. Her business is named after her grandmothers, and she frequently channels their work ethic and green thumb when starting new seeds or troubleshooting farm problems and challenges. While she is always growing something new each year, she will always plant her favorite flower, ranunculus! Bessie and Joyce FlowersEmily BrooksbyEmily has a small urban farm, less than 1/8 of an acre, nestled in the heart of Harvest Hills in Saratoga Springs. Despite its small size, Emily is able to grow thousands of flowers and filler every year. Rows of flowers are grown in raised beds, and the garden borders of perennials and bulbs are always free game for cutting! She is always saying this will be the last year of removing grass for a new garden bed, and then she proceeds to dig up more grass! To maximize space and extend the season, Emily creates low tunnels each year to grow spring beauties like ranunculus and anemones. She also does intensive succession planting, rotating planting areas with sunflowers, zinnias, and more. All this is done as organically as possible, with natural fertilizers and pest control solutions. Her growing season goes from early April to the end of September. Cherry Petals is run by Britin Van Brocklin, she received her masters degree in accounting and has been working in accounting for almost a decade. Britin needed a creative outlet and a way to help teach her children the importance of hard work and the importance of getting outside everyday. She had dreamed of growing and selling flowers for a few years and finally after hours and hours of research Britin bought her first seeds in January 2017. Since then the flower farm has changed and improved every year and although farming isn't easy it is very rewarding.Cherry Petals Flower FarmBritin Van BrocklinCherry Petals Flower Farm is an urban farm located in Kaysville, UT. Meet the team that works so hard to make the UCFFA a great place to be. Meet the Board Want in on the fun? We are hiring! Find the details here. Mollie Payne PRESIDENT Mollie grew up surrounded by gardens and flowers, but somehow opted to study computers in college. She now runs a flower farm in her backyard in Provo. She loves building lasting connections with her community by sharing the joy of locally grown flowers. She offers her flowers at the Provo Farmers' Market and on her website direct to florists and designers. She also enjoys hosting various workshops on her property. She loves sharing her knowledge of growing and expanding her own education when it comes to new crops and practices. Kellie Webb VICE PRESIDENT Kellie had been working in business and publishing for 13 years before deciding to stay home with her 2 little boys. Like many mothers, she started gardening and growing flowers as an outlet and fun past-time for her family. She now runs a 2-acre flower farm that focuses on bouquet subscriptions, on-farm u-picks and workshops, and wholesale to florists. Even now, she is still amazed at how a few beautiful flowers, cut and brought into her home, brings her so much joy. Sheraya Fulton TREASURER KailCee Harrison SECRETARY After spending her childhood farming and playing in her grandparentās floral shop, founding a flower farm seemed like a natural choice for KailCee. Free Spirit Flora began after 3 a.m. Youtube deepdive into the floral industry abroad. After learning how flowers are grown, harvested, and sold on a massive scale in Holland, South Africa, and Columbia she felt that there must be a simpler, more sustainable way to produce flowers. Her grandparents told her stories of carnation farms in California, rose hot houses in Utah County, and how it used to be easier to purchase locally than it was to buy abroad. Inspired by the idea she set out to grow and share her flowers with her community. When she isnāt farming you can find KailCee hiking in the mountains or traveling with friends. Melanie Stock RESEARCH COMMITTEE CHAIR Melanie is an Assistant Professor at Utah State University in Logan, UT. Her research focuses on cut flower crops and applied physics. In her free time, sheās an avid urban homesteader and enjoys jogging with her dog. Brianna Wells EDUCATION COMMITTEE CHAIR One of my biggest passions is flowers. Growing flowers, arranging flowers, and teaching about flowers make me excited. I attended Washington State University and received my degree in Agriculture, and now I am an adjunct professor at BYU teaching Floral Design. While working on my degree I knew I wanted to start a flower farm and bring flowers to the community around me. So here I am now teaching Floral Design at BYU, running a flower farm, and creating amazing events. Sara Asbridge PUBLICITY COMMITTEE CHAIR I am a farm girl through and through. I was born and raised on a dairy farm in North Dakota, but we didn't just milk cows, we also raised beef cattle and all of the hay and grain needed to support both of the herds. Spring was a busy time on the farm between calving, planting the fields, first cutting of the alfalfa and planting the gardens. I say gardens because my mom planted one, my grandmother (who also lived on the the farm) planted one and my town grandpa also planted a large garden at the farm. But then there was the flowers. The hedge row of peonies, the driveway lined with lilacs, and the farmyard dotted with flower beds full of perennials, just waiting on the annuals to be planted. It was a glorious place to grow up and a wonderful way to be raised. This is where my love of flowers was born, beside my mother and my grandmother, with our hands in the dirt and sweat on our brows. Calee Garn GRANT COMMITTEE CHAIR Agriculture has shaped my life from the beginning. My family operates a commercial cow/calf ranch and a sizable row crop farm, where I learned the value of hard work, stewardship of the land, and thoughtful decision-making. After starting our family, my involvement in the farm shifted from spending long days in the tractor whenever I could to building something of my own. What began as my idea for a small garden projectāgrowing flowers to see what might be possibleāhas since grown into a branch of our farming operation. I approach flower production the same way I was taught to approach any cropāwith careful observation, practical knowledge, and a commitment to continual improvement. Through my work with the Utah Cut Flower Farm Association, I focus on supporting growers, strengthening markets for locally grown flowers, and helping build a stronger future for the industry while raising my children with the same agricultural values I was given. Shaleigh Shurtz VIRTUAL ASSISTANT Shaleigh is a Virtual Assistant/Social Media Manager and Flower Farmer in Cedar City, Utah. She is the owner of Let's Grow with Shaleigh and Chatelaine Flower Farm. She is passionate about educating others about the importance of local flowers. Shaleigh began flower farming in her parents backyard in the spring of 2023 and now grows from her own home. in downtown Cedar City. With the help of her husband and two children, she works hard to bring sustainably grown local flowers to her community.

Hi, my name is Melanie Stock and I run USU Small Farms with my team of graduate and undergraduate students. Iām a soil scientist and my role at Utah State is to develop and run a research and extension program that supports smaller scale farmers. I quickly learned about the amazing development of cut flower farms across the state ā and also the lack of (research-based) information for growing cut flowers in our area. It was an easy decision to focus my work on cut flower production. I got into farming in a roundabout way. I loved gardening with my Dad for as long as I can remember. We lived in the city, so I was pretty removed from farming, but I ended up snagging a sweet landscaping job in high school and college that allowed me to work with plants in a new way. Later on, I became a chemist, but my love for plants never went away. I realized being a soil scientist would be a perfect and practical way to combine my interests in plants and chemistry (and later physics). I felt like I met the rest of my professional life during my PhD though: I started studying agriculture (because of my advisor) and running a community garden on the side (because of my love of food and people). After these two experiences, I knew I wanted to stay in agriculture and work with smaller scale farmers. Now I have my dream job at USU and love conducting agricultural research with my students - in the name of cut flowers - and work with cut flower farmers across our region.USU Small FarmsMelanie StockUSU Small Farms features a cut flower program for research, teaching, and extension.
