- Comparing harvested white chantilly snapdragons planted in the fall, early spring, and late spring, | UCFFA
< Back Comparing harvested white chantilly snapdragons planted in the fall, early spring, and late spring, Lori Partridge and Kaitlyn Reich We obtained a soil sample from each spot that we planted. According to the recommendations from the soil sample results, we amended the soil. We will plant 175 white Chantilly snapdragons in the fall (October 2025), early spring (2026), and late spring (2026). Flowers planted in the fall will be covered with a triple layer of frost cloth when temperatures fall below 20 degrees. We will randomize each plot so each plot has all 3 subjects in them, with a total of 4 plots. We will measure and compare harvested stem and stem lengths. We will plant them on our property in Bountiful. All plugs grown in different seasons will be watered, pinched, and harvested using the same methods. We will report our findings at the Bloom Zoom and a written report on October 5, 2026. Download Report Blooming Zoom Previous Next

- Willow Creek Flower and Herb | Utah Cut Flower Farm Association
I am a farm girl through and through. I was born and raised on a dairy farm in North Dakota, but we didn't just milk cows, we also raised beef cattle and all of the hay and grain needed to support both of the herds. Spring was a busy time on the farm between calving, planting the fields, first cutting of the alfalfa and planting the gardens. I say gardens because my mom planted one, my grandmother (who also lived on the the farm) planted one and my town grandpa also planted a large garden at the farm. But then there was the flowers. The hedge row of peonies, the driveway lined with lilacs, and the farmyard dotted with flower beds full of perennials, just waiting on the annuals to be planted. It was a glorious place to grow up and a wonderful way to be raised. This is where my love of flowers was born, beside my mother and my grandmother, with our hands in the dirt and sweat on our brows.Willow Creek Flower and HerbSara AsbridgeIn 2017, my daughter had the opportunity to travel to France on a school trip. We were looking for creative ways to fund-raise and decided to grow and sell fresh cut flower bouquets. We already grew a yard full of perennials and a large garden. So she and I planted a large patch of our garden into flowers for cutting. The community was supportive of our endeavor that season and I also greatly enjoyed it. The cut flower growing area of our property has steadily expanded since then and I am continually adding new and interesting flowers to my offerings.Utah Flower Market, a local flower collective that sells wholesale and retail on Wednesdays at Grove Station in Pleasant Grove < Back Edit My Profile Willow Creek Flower and Herb In 2017, my daughter had the opportunity to travel to France on a school trip. - Season Extension of Tulips using Pre-cooled Bulbs and a High Tunnel | UCFFA
< Back Season Extension of Tulips using Pre-cooled Bulbs and a High Tunnel Julie Hall For this project I will order 600 tulips, 200 each of 3 types of pre-cooled tulips including early and mid blooming varieties. Tulips will be planted in soil in crates and kept at 40 degrees in my garage to initiate root development. Once roots are established they will be moved to a space where they can continue to chill and will be systematically moved into the high tunnel over a 4 week period. I will move 50 of each variety into the high tunnel each week and label each crate with a date. I will measure their bloom time, daily temperature, height, # of marketable stems, and number of stems sold. I will also track my labor and costs associated with growing the tulips to determine profitability. Download Report Blooming Zoom Previous Next
- Zinnia Postharvest Assessment: Improving Vase Life Through Cooler Storage Trials | UCFFA
< Back Zinnia Postharvest Assessment: Improving Vase Life Through Cooler Storage Trials Calee Garn Twelve florists will be selected at random from a list of florists within a 30 mile radius of our farm. Each florist will be given, at no charge, two bunches of zinnias. Florists will be instructed to not put their zinnias in a floral holding solution of any kind. We will encourage florists to place one bunch in the cooler, and the other to be left out. We will ask them to use the flowers in their design work. We will then ask them to fill out the questionnaire regarding what they were able to witness. The following data will be collected from local florists ● Are Zinnias currently used in your design work? ● Does Vase life determine the use of zinnias in your floral designs? ● Did utilizing a cooler affect the vase life of the zinnias provided? ● Will the data collected from this trial increase the usage of Zinnias in your design work?
