  • Does Planting Time Affect the Onset of Powdery Mildew in Zinnia Crops? | UCFFA

< Back Does Planting Time Affect the Onset of Powdery Mildew in Zinnia Crops? Amber Lewis, Crestwood Blooms This past growing season I examined powdery mildew presence for three successions of zinnia crops. The successions included three different varieties of zinnias to determine if there were variations in powdery mildew presence for the different varieties. Benary Salmon, Ballerina, and Oklahoma White were the varieties I chose to sample. Each succession was started 3 weeks apart. Download Report Blooming Zoom Previous Next

The garden constantly teaches me and is where I find peace, but it’s also where I feel inspired to create designs that emulate what I see naturally occurring there. Because I grow some of my own flowers I have a deep respect and admiration for flower farmers and choose local blooms whenever possible. Understanding the positive effect buying local has on our earth and community as well as my desire to support women-owned businesses makes it an easy choice for me. Learn More I'm a paragraph. Emily hasn't looked back since. This garden-style design influences what she plants in her micro flower farm and how she brings her flowers together in an arrangement. She is inspired by the works of Ariella Chezar, Milli Proust, Kristen Griffith-VanderYacht, and Sarah Raven, all who also embrace the natural form and movement of the flowers they work with. Emily has been designing with her homegrown flowers for 3 years. Much of her product she grows herself, but she is happy to source material from her fellow local flower farmers and wholesaler. Her favorite flower is ranunculus, and her favorite color to design with is yellow! Check out her photo gallery on her website to see more of her designs. Learn More I'm a paragraph. That experience shaped how I work with flowers today by understanding their strengths, limits, and best uses. Floral design became my creative space within that foundation. I now create seasonally focused arrangements and wedding florals that reflect both practical growing knowledge and clean, intentional design. We offer a la cart wedding services (meaing we design and you pick-up), and custom arrangements. My design style is garden-inspired and unique! I love big statement arrangements and pieces, as well as flower clouds and bikes and turning anything into a work of floral art. I believe your flowers should be as unique as you are. • Cold Creek Flower Farm | Utah Cut Flower Farm Association

My name is Arica Allen and I am the owner of Cold Creek Flower Farm, a small 1.5 acres farm in beautiful Cache Valley. My husband and I have created a small flower farm with our 3 children. My background in the floral industry and working at a local greenhouse inspired me to grow some of my favorite flowers for special events and arrangements that florists love using. Since my love was for the flowers, I decided to shift my focus to growing the flowers instead of creating wedding and event florals. I love how each flower has its unique quality and come in a variety of colors. My mom is a flower lover as well and I enjoyed tending the garden and flowers with her throughout my youth. Meeting some local flower growers helped inspire me to do a test garden in my own backyard. We had some tremendous success that first year and now we are attempting to “grow” our business with a much larger footprint. Seed production and creating new varieties is one area we would like to pursue down the road. For now, getting our flowers to wholesale markets and other flower lovers will be our goal as we stop and “smell the flowers” growing in our rows. We are creating our own home garden and raising our 3 children and Lucy, our dog who loves to chase the butterflies.Cold Creek Flower FarmArica AllenOur Farm is located in the foothills of Cove, UT. We are currently growing on 1.5 acres with two unheated greenhouses that let us extend our season. We love that our farm is a family operation where our children have the opportunity to learn to work and appreciate what the land can provide for us. We grow specialty cut seasonal flowers from March-September each year. We have concentrated our efforts on ranunculus, anemone, tulips, dahlias and peonies. We are always experimenting with different varieties and have extended our collection to grow lisianthus, sunflowers, and snapdragons. We provide quality flowers to florists as well as floral subscriptions and pop up sales at local businesses.
