Hi! My name is Staci and I am a second generation farmer. I’m a wife and mother to 3 amazing boys ( I call them the Treshombres….hence how came up with our name ). My love for nature and being outside started at a very young age. I enjoy hiking, camping, backpacking, trail running and fly fishing. So naturally these hobbies led me to create my own outdoor oasis right in my own backyard. Somewhere to sit with my family and enjoy fresh vegetables from the garden to nurture and cultivate beautiful flowers to garnish our kitchen table. The urge to grow my own food for my family led me to the knowledge and power of flowers. And to now share that with our community is such an honor.Treshombres FarmStaci CraigTreshombres Farm is a micro flower farm located in the heart of Orchard country here in Santaquin, Utah. Our farm started as a small raised garden bed in our backyard where the bees that we were raising could flourish. Inter-grating flowers into the garden to help support the pollinators triggered something inside myself that I just could not ignore. Growing and cultivating has become a passion that I want to share with our community. From our small backyard to now small farm plot we have expanded each year, growing more and more unique and beautiful varieties to offer to the community. Offering high quality blooms grown right here in the heart of our town to the people we love is what it’s all about. I am a farm girl through and through. I was born and raised on a dairy farm in North Dakota, but we didn't just milk cows, we also raised beef cattle and all of the hay and grain needed to support both of the herds. Spring was a busy time on the farm between calving, planting the fields, first cutting of the alfalfa and planting the gardens. I say gardens because my mom planted one, my grandmother (who also lived on the the farm) planted one and my town grandpa also planted a large garden at the farm. But then there was the flowers. The hedge row of peonies, the driveway lined with lilacs, and the farmyard dotted with flower beds full of perennials, just waiting on the annuals to be planted. It was a glorious place to grow up and a wonderful way to be raised. This is where my love of flowers was born, beside my mother and my grandmother, with our hands in the dirt and sweat on our brows.Willow Creek Flower and HerbSara AsbridgeIn 2017, my daughter had the opportunity to travel to France on a school trip. We were looking for creative ways to fund-raise and decided to grow and sell fresh cut flower bouquets. We already grew a yard full of perennials and a large garden. So she and I planted a large patch of our garden into flowers for cutting. The community was supportive of our endeavor that season and I also greatly enjoyed it. - USU Small Farms | Utah Cut Flower Farm Association
Hi, my name is Melanie Stock and I run USU Small Farms with my team of graduate and undergraduate students. I’m a soil scientist and my role at Utah State is to develop and run a research and extension program that supports smaller scale farmers. I quickly learned about the amazing development of cut flower farms across the state – and also the lack of (research-based) information for growing cut flowers in our area. It was an easy decision to focus my work on cut flower production. I got into farming in a roundabout way. I loved gardening with my Dad for as long as I can remember. We lived in the city, so I was pretty removed from farming, but I ended up snagging a sweet landscaping job in high school and college that allowed me to work with plants in a new way. Later on, I became a chemist, but my love for plants never went away. I realized being a soil scientist would be a perfect and practical way to combine my interests in plants and chemistry (and later physics). I felt like I met the rest of my professional life during my PhD though: I started studying agriculture (because of my advisor) and running a community garden on the side (because of my love of food and people). After these two experiences, I knew I wanted to stay in agriculture and work with smaller scale farmers. Now I have my dream job at USU and love conducting agricultural research with my students - in the name of cut flowers - and work with cut flower farmers across our region.USU Small FarmsMelanie StockUSU Small Farms features a cut flower program for research, teaching, and extension. Our research focuses on tailoring cut flower production to Utah growing conditions, as well as testing environmentally responsible farming practices. We teach our students through hands-on farm internships and host outreach events to share our findings across the Intermountain West. Our flowers are primarily sold to Utah florists, and we use these sales to support our students and study the local cut flower market. The USU Small Farms team consists of graduate students, undergraduate students, and me (Melanie Stock, USU faculty). Special acknowledgement goes to Maegen Lewis, my MS student with the biggest passion for cut flowers, and the person who deserves all the credit for managing the day-to-day needs at our farm, including undergraduate student training and sales. We specialized in peony, snapdragons, stock, lisianthus, dahlias, zinnias, celosia, foxglove, and delphinium. Our cut flower trials are established in North Logan at the Utah Agricultural Experiment Station – Greenville Farm, and we also collaborate on trials with growers across the Wasatch Front. Most of our flowers are sold through Florage Flower Farm Co-op.Please email Melanie Stock if you are interested in purchasing USU Flowers. < Back Edit My Profile USU Small Farms USU Small Farms features a cut flower program for research, teaching, and extension. - Cherry Petals Flower Farm | Utah Cut Flower Farm Association
Cherry Petals is run by Britin Van Brocklin, she received her masters degree in accounting and has been working in accounting for almost a decade. Britin needed a creative outlet and a way to help teach her children the importance of hard work and the importance of getting outside everyday. She had dreamed of growing and selling flowers for a few years and finally after hours and hours of research Britin bought her first seeds in January 2017. Since then the flower farm has changed and improved every year and although farming isn't easy it is very rewarding.Cherry Petals Flower FarmBritin Van BrocklinCherry Petals Flower Farm is an urban farm located in Kaysville, UT. The first year we grew at our grandparents cherry orchard (hence the name Cherry Petals) and sold at the Salt Lake Farmers market. We then moved to a new house with a bigger lot and have been able to grow and sell locally for the past six seasons. We grow our flowers organically and focus peonies, roses and other long lasting cut flowers. We love having cut flowers in our home and love being able to provide others with fresh local flowers. We also love being able to share our surplus blooms with our neighbors and families. Flowers really do help people feel better and we love being able to spread some joy with our flowers. < Back Edit My Profile Cherry Petals Flower Farm Cherry Petals Flower Farm is an urban farm located in Kaysville, UT. Hi, I'm Mollie, owner of Foothill Farm Flowers. I have always loved growing things - starting from when I was 4 and my dad gave me my own row of peas to take care of for a season. My mother and grandmother both loved growing flowers each season and would let me help as a child. Watching a seed turn into something beautiful never gets old! After studying computer science, being a software developer, and raising my 4 kids, I decided to make my growing hobby a business and started our cut flower farm. I love teaching my kids the value of hard work and the skills of being an entrepreneur. And most of all I love sharing joy with my community through the beauty of the seasonal blooms we grow.Foothill Farm FlowersMollie PayneFoothill Farm is the nickname I gave our home when we moved to Provo in 2018. We were so excited to have almost an acre of land, and all the possibilities that held for our family. After planting 20 fruit trees and creating a veggie garden in the previously unused earth, we began making plans for a flower farm in 2019. We have been growing and selling flowers ever since! With the whole family helping, we are dedicated to sustainable and safe growing practices. We love sharing joy with our community through the beauty of our flowers. One of our favorite things is introducing our customers to the unique and heirloom varieties we grow. Watching our customers' eyes light up when they discover the difference in our fresh locally grown flowers is one of our favorite things.Provo Farmers' Market < Back Edit My Profile Foothill Farm Flowers Foothill Farm is the nickname I gave our home when we moved to Provo in 2018. Growing up, I didn't have the proverbial green thumb. I would flip through seed catalogs and stare longingly at houses with lovely yards, all while yearning to grow a beautiful garden of my own. I knew it was possible to do here in our arid climate as I have watched my dad and grandfather grow incredible gardens year after year. One day, several years ago, I decided to figure it out so that I could get my hands dirty and feed my passion for flowers. In 2019, this dreamer made the choice to plant a large plot of sunflowers on some of our family's land the following spring. I could never have imagined the impact those flowers made on me and the friendships that would blossom from that venture. Now, a few years down the road, I have moved the "farm" to a much smaller area on a portion of my half acre of red dirt near Zion. I am forever a student of the flowers as I learn which flourish the best in our unique growing conditions. They take a special kind of care and love to grow in the desert, and I am grateful to be here for the journey and for the joy these flowers bring not only to me, but to all who receive them.Blue Sky BloomsKimberlee HendersonUnder the blue skies and warm sunshine of the Southern Utah desert near Zion National Park, growing beautifully in the sandy red dirt, an ephemeral oasis of seasonal flowers bloom. I am a third generation farmer. I grew up playing in the creek and picking roses from my grandmother's garden in Southern California. I love to spend the day in the sunshine, whether It's in the garden or sitting by the pool or beach. I believe in knowing where your food comes from and I love to trade flowers, vegetables sourdough bread and eggs with friends and neighbors to create a mini self sustaining community.Blue Mountain RanchHeather SmithWe bought our property, Blue Mountain Ranch almost 6 years ago, after searching for 20+ years. We were initially drawn to the mature perennials, trees and stunning views of the mountains. The property sits at the mouth of American Fork canyon in Highland and we have beautiful rich soil. We have worked tirelessly to bring our farm back to life and create a biodiverse environment for pollinators, birds and wildlife. We farm on a little less than 2 acres, although some of it is pasture that we are working to bring the soil back to a healthy state. We are passionate about the soil health and we work to keep our practices sustainable and organic. We grow a variety or vegetables for our own consumption and to share with others and have a growing flower farm as well. We keep chickens for their eggs as well as the rich compost they provide. We also have kept bees in the past and enjoy watching them work to pollinate both our edible and non edible crops. < Back Edit My Profile Blue Mountain Ranch We bought our property, Blue Mountain Ranch almost 6 years ago, after searching for 20+ years.
